Car key programming — including all keys lost

A key has to be programmed to the car, not just cut. We program transponder keys, remotes and push-button smart keys at your address — including when every key has been lost and there is nothing left to copy.

What programming means

Making a key the car actually accepts

Cutting the blade is the easy half. The key also has to be introduced to the immobilizer — and that is where most cars live or die.

How it goes

What happens when you call

1

Give us the vehicle details

Year, make, model and VIN. That tells us the key and the programming method before we arrive.

2

Quote first

You hear the price for the key and the programming before we come. All keys lost is quoted honestly up front.

3

Programmed and proved

We program the key to the car and prove it starts, locks and unlocks before we hand it over.

Before you call

Photograph the car, the key and the door if you can, note the nearest cross-streets, and have photo ID plus something tying you to the vehicle — registration, insurance or the title. If a pet or a child is locked inside, say so on the call; that changes how we respond.

While you wait

Stay somewhere safe and visible, especially on a roadside. Do not force the door or the window — that usually turns a lockout into bodywork. Keep your phone on: if the van is delayed, we call you first.

Straight answers

What affects the price

The make and model

Programming methods differ widely — a common domestic car is not the same job as a European model.

Have you any key left?

Programming from a working key is faster and cheaper than building one from nothing.

Key technology

Blade, transponder, remote head or smart key — the part and the programming both matter.

Where the car is

We come to you, so the car needs to be reachable. Tell us if it is in a garage or a tight spot.

Questions

Key programming questions

Can you make a key when all keys are lost?

For most vehicles, yes. It takes longer and the car has to be reachable, so call with the year, make and model and we confirm before we come.

Does the car need to be present?

Yes — the key is programmed to that specific vehicle, so we come to the car, wherever it is parked.

Can you program a key I bought myself?

Often, if it is the correct part for the car. Tell us the part number and we will check before you commit.

How long does programming take?

Most jobs are done in one visit. All keys lost takes longer than a spare, and we tell you which you are getting before we start.

Can you stop an old key from working?

Where the car allows it, yes — we can remove lost keys from the vehicle’s memory. Ask on the call and we will say what your model supports.

Do you cover European and luxury cars?

Common ones, yes. Our advanced car keys page covers dealer-tool work on Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Volvo and more.

Need a car key programmed?

Year, make and model — one call and we quote before we come.
